Play with Purpose- Igniting Early Literacy Through Structured Play

The Challenge
Across the country, structured play has vanished from many Kindergarten classrooms.  In St. Lucie County, our school district wanted to bring structured play back to the classrooms, but simply lacked the funding to do so.

Our Solution
The St. Lucie County Education Foundation launched Play with Purpose, a literacy-driven initiative that reintroduces structured, purposeful play into our Kindergarten classrooms.  The program includes:
  • themed group play sets to spark imagination, conversation, and collaboration;
  • companion books for teachers to read aloud and reinforce vocabulary, story-telling and comprehension;
  • a classroom environment where literacy skills grow naturally through joy, engagement, and play
Why it Matters
Play with Purpose builds critical early literacy and social-emotional skills.  It supports academid equity, regardless of a child's background.  Further, it helps to build the foundation for reading with a goal of proficiency by third graded.

Your Impact
With your support we can supply new kits to each of our Kindergarten classrooms while providing teacher training on kit useage.  You will be helping to lay the literacy foundation in our youth here in St. Lucie County.
